Bridges and Culverts

The Township of Centre Wellington has 111 bridges, which cross over the many waterways that work their way throughout the township. This number is made up of both bridges and culverts that have a span that is 3 meters or more on township roads and walkways.

The Township has all 111 structures inspected by qualified structural engineers every second year as prescribed by the Ontario Regulation 104-97.  These inspection insure that all bridges are in a safe condition. Structures that have been identified with significant structural concerns are inspected every six months.

The Township Bridge Replacement Chart (2024) provides the estimated replacement cost and approximate timing of bridge replacement projects. A 2% dedicated capital levy that was approved by Council in December 2015, continues to support Council's priority to replace or reconstruct bridge structures in Centre Wellington.

The Township's structural engineers through regular inspections make recommendation to close structures as structural and public safety concerns arise. The following structures are currently closed:

  • Fourth Line (former West Garafraxa Township) between Sideroad 30 and County Road 22 (Structure 5-E)
