Swim to Survive 2025

The Swim to Survive program is made possible thanks to our incredible community partners who invest in safety training for children and youth. Drowning remains a serious concern, being the second-leading cause of accidental death in Canada for individuals aged 55 and under.

The Lifesaving Society’s Canadian Swim to Survive® standard outlines the essential minimum skills required to survive an unexpected fall into deep water. In response to drowning research and recommendations from the Ontario Coroner, the Lifesaving Society developed the Swim to Survive+ program. This advanced water safety initiative ensures that children graduating from elementary school possess essential swimming and water safety skills.

The Swim to Survive program is offered to Grade 3 students in Centre Wellington, while the Swim to Survive Plus program is geared toward Grade 7 students, focusing on real-life scenarios to prepare them for potential emergencies in the water. Swim to Survive programs are conducted from April to June each year.

As a valued community partner, your contribution will be recognized on every letter sent out to participating students, showcasing your commitment to promoting safety and well-being in our community.

Public Swim Sponsors

Thanks to the generous support of our community partners, the Township is excited to offer FREE public swimming on select Saturdays and Sundays to the first 40 children/youth participants! Please note that this complimentary access is only available on days that have been sponsored.

Elora Community Centre Naming Rights

The Township is excited to announce a Community Partnership with Jefferson Elora Corporation (JEC). JEC has purchased the naming rights for the Elora Community Centre for the next 10 years and the agreement will begin on January 1st, 2024, when the facility is scheduled to re-open following extensive renovations.

“The Township takes great pride in offering facilities, programs, and services to support active living and healthy lifestyles in Centre Wellington,” said Mayor Watters. “The partnership with JEC will allow the Township to deliver opportunities above and beyond what we could have done. Thank you JEC for investing into your community.”

This meaningful investment into our community by JEC is an annual investment of $78,200 for a total of $782,000 over the next 10 years. Funds from the Township Naming Rights and Sponsorship agreements assist in the provision of Township services and projects. Naming rights agreements provide the Township with alternative funding sources to benefit the quality of life for those who live in Centre Wellington.

Victoria Park Playground Naming Rights

The Township is thrilled to announce a community partnership with Ecclestone Financial Group (EFG) for the naming rights of the playground at Victoria Park in Fergus.  When the playground reopens later this year following extensive renovations, it will be named the Ecclestone Financial Group Playground.  

This agreement, valued at $15,000 annually over the next 10 years, represents a total investment of $150,000 into the community.

Mayor Watters stated, "This partnership not only enhances our local playground but also strengthens our commitment to providing quality recreational spaces for our residents. We are grateful to Ecclestone Financial Group for their generous support and dedication to our community."

"We approached the Township about this park, inspired by the community's heartfelt desire to bring people together evident in the toy trucks generously and anonymously donated to the park. These trucks will continue to be valued additions to the new sandbox at the park.  This spirit of generosity is exactly why we cherish our community. Our commitment to enhancing the park reflects our belief in its potential for connection and play. We hope families will create lasting memories here for many years to come, and we look forward to growing alongside Centre Wellington!"

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place in the Spring of 2025.
