Downtown Fergus Illumination Grant Program Accepting Applications
Council officially endorsed the Downtown Fergus Illumination Grant Program on April 14, 2025, advancing a successful lighting initiative previously managed by the Township’s Community Development Division.
Originally funded by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and Rural Tourism Organization Region 4 (RTO4), the initial phase of this initiative highlighted the architectural features of buildings in downtown Fergus. The goal was beautification, enhanced business activity after hours, and community economic growth.
Now entering its second phase, the program will continue to support the economic revitalization and visual enhancement of the downtown core. Local businesses are eligible for:
- Up to $2,500 toward lighting equipment, through the Township’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP)
- Up to $4,000 for professional installation, funded through remaining RTO4 grants.
“This initiative is an important step forward for our community," said Mayor Watters. "It’s not just about beautifying our space, it’s about bringing our streets to life after hours and creating a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for everyone who lives here and everyone who visits. It’s a perfect fit with our Community Improvement Plan, especially in driving forward our goals for façade and property upgrades."
The grant is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is contingent on the availability of remaining funds.
