Have a say about Potential Short-Term Rental Regulations
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Short-term rentals (STRs) are considered a type of accommodation where an individual rents a residence, or a portion of a residence, for a short-term period, generally through internet platforms such as Airbnb or VRBO.
STRs have become popular, especially in smaller communities as they provide additional accommodation opportunities for visitors whether they are attending community events, visiting families, or simply enjoying the environment.
Several municipalities have taken steps to regulate STRs, often adopting approaches that relate to local conditions. Where STRs have created problems (noise, parking, safety) the regulatory approach has been able to respond and mitigate those issues.
We want to know how residents, business owners, and operators in Centre Wellington feel about STRs. Your input will aid in identifying an approach that would benefit our community. The Township has engaged Maclaren Municipal Consulting to review the potential need for regulation of STRs of residential properties. Share your thoughts through our survey, available until the end of July at www.connectcw.ca/shorttermrentalregulation
