The Township seeks input from residents on the Active Transportation and Mobility Plan

CENTRE WELLINGTON – We need your feedback about active transportation in Centre Wellington! The Township is developing an Active Transportation and Mobility Plan (ATMP) that will help shape the future of the Township’s on and off-road active transportation and mobility network to 2051. This Plan will guide the planning, budgeting, and growth of physical and social infrastructure to support walking, cycling, and rolling within Centre Wellington. This plan will help establish an equitable and accessible transportation system that caters to all users and helps reach the strategic goals of building healthy, sustainable, and complete communities.

We want to hear your thoughts! The Township is asking residents to actively participate in shaping the ATMP. Residents can now take a survey to provide their thoughts about active transportation in Centre Wellington. The survey is available online until October 31 and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

“The announcement of this project marks an important step forward for our community as we launch the Active Transportation and Mobility Plan survey,” said Mayor Watters. “Council believes that everyone deserves safe, accessible, and efficient ways to travel. Your input is crucial in shaping a transportation network that meets the needs of all residents. Together, let's create a vibrant, connected, and sustainable future for our community."

Additional opportunities for public input will be held throughout the project, including community pop-ups, public information sessions, and more. About the Plan
This community-focused plan will play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and expanding the Township’s active transportation network. By leveraging existing active transportation infrastructure and incorporating technical analysis, best practices, and valuable insights from the Centre Wellington community, the plan will address the needs and aspirations of residents, making active transportation a more viable option for residents and visitors.

The goals of the ATMP are to:

  • Create a safer and more livable community for residents and visitors alike.
  • Identify current and future opportunities to improve the existing on- and off-road active transportation network through suitable facilities geared towards All Ages and Abilities (commonly referred to as “AAA”) which will connect to residential, institutional, commercial, and employment hubs.
  • Provide a framework for enhancing the network in the context of planned growth and development in the Study Area.
  • Expand educational and promotional initiatives to promote active transportation opportunities for people of All Ages and Abilities.

The ATMP project will unfold through a multi-phase process, including project initiation with a complete background review, the development of a comprehensive active transportation network, policy, framework and program creation, implementation of the plan itself, and then monitoring and reporting back.
