Township Acquires 7334 Middlebrook Road for Future Water Supply

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Council directed staff to execute an Agreement of Purchase and Sale between the Township and Triton Water Canada Holdings, Inc. to purchase the lands known municipally as 7334 Middlebrook Road as a future water supply source.

"Securing this land for a future water supply is a critical step toward ensuring the long-term sustainability and resilience of our community,” said Mayor Watters.  “I’m proud of the proactive approach taken by both the Council and staff to make this purchase a reality. Their foresight and commitment to planning are essential for protecting the future of our residents."

The Fergus and Elora Water Supply System currently includes six wells in Fergus and three wells in Elora. According to the Township's 2019 Water Supply Master Plan (WSMP), additional water supply capacity is required to support future growth in the Township. From a water supply standpoint, the Middlebrook Road site would become the third new water supply location (following new water supply wells in Areas three and seven) to meet the Township's growth needs.

The Middlebrook well was constructed in 1984. It operates under artesian conditions, with a static water level of 14 metres above ground surface at the time of construction.  The on-site buildings have been demolished at the 5.5-acre site, except for the concrete foundations and a small wellhouse that contains the Middlebrook well.
