Township to host two ribbon-cutting events on Wednesday, May 22

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Township will host two ribbon-cutting events on Wednesday, May 22.

Bridge 16-WG on Fifth Line in Former West Gararaxa Township

The Fifth Line Bridge (16-WG) was replaced and re-opened for traffic movement over Irvine Creek in November 2023.  The former structure was closed in 2021.  The scope of work included demolition of the existing bridge, road reconstruction/drainage work, and full bridge replacement with a new two-lane structure built to current Canadian Bridge Design Code requirements. The replacement bridge includes architectural details and a plaque to commemorate the original bridge and will provide a service life of an estimated 90 years. 

This bridge replacement was funded primarily through the Township’s Bridge Dedicated Capital Levy, with partial funding by the Province of Ontario’s Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF). 

Bridge 24-WG on First Line in Former West Garafraxa Township

The Fifth Line Cruden Bridge (24-WG) was replaced and reopened for traffic movement over Irvine Creek in December 2023. The scope of work included demolition of the existing bridge, road reconstruction/drainage work, and full bridge replacement with a new two-lane structure built to current Canadian Bridge Design Code requirements. The replacement bridge includes architectural details and a plaque to commemorate the original bridge and will provide a service life of an estimated 90 years.
