Update on Strathallan Park Potential Disposition

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Township has been working diligently with the Wellington Catholic District School Board (the “Wellington Catholic DSB”) to attempt to finalize an agreement for the disposition of Strathallan Park, to facilitate an expansion of St. Joseph Catholic School, as further detailed here. Township Council declared the lands surplus at its meeting of January 29, 2024, to initiate that process and the Township and the Wellington Catholic DSB have been working on a plan that would provide mutual benefit to both parties. Pursuant to the Township’s disposition policy, lands must be declared surplus before any agreement to dispose of lands is negotiated.

The Township and the Wellington Catholic DSB have mutually agreed to reconsider the sale and acquisition of Strathallan Park.  Since the lands were declared surplus in January, the long-term accommodation needs of the Wellington Catholic DSB have changed.  To accommodate increasing enrollment the Wellington Catholic DSB will be reassessing the accommodation requirements of the Board.  The Township understands that the Wellington Catholic DSB will not be pursuing any rezoning of the property which would have been a necessary precondition of any sale. As such, Staff will be taking a report to Council in the near future recommending that the lands be deemed non-surplus.

The Wellington Catholic DSB continues to explore options for other sites to accommodate education and childcare needs within the Township.
