By-Law Enforcement

The Township of Centre Wellington shares a common goal with our residents to ensure our community is safe, healthy and enjoyable for everyone. By-laws encourage residents and businesses to be responsible and respectful of their neighbours.  The Township’s enforcement philosophy and practice includes a balanced approach focused on obtaining compliance through education and working collaboratively with owners or occupants of property.

The Municipal Law Enforcement Officer responds to complaints received from the public regarding possible violations and non-compliance with various by-laws.

By-law related complaints can be filed either by email, in-person at the Municipal Office, by phone, by mail, or online using our CityView Portal.  All required information, as described above, must be provided or the complaint will not be investigated.

A complete complaint must include the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact Information (phone number and/or email)
  • Address / Location of the apparent by-law violation
  • Description of Complaint

All complainant information shall be protected to the extent the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy ACT (MFIPPA) permits and will not be disclosed to anyone unless ordered by a Court or other tribunal. Please note that for privacy reasons, we are unable to provide updates to bylaw complaints filed online on the CityView Portal

The Township of Centre Wellington's Property Standards By-law regulates the maintenance and occupancy of lands and buildings within the Township.

These standards are put in place to protect the health and safety of occupants as well as the general public. Standards prescribed in these by-laws are intended to outline the reasonable maintenance and upkeep of yards, buildings and properties.

All property owners are required to repair and maintain their property according to these standards, including owners of residential rental properties, unless there is an agreement between the property owner and a lessee or occupant that assigns maintenance and repair responsibility to the lessee or occupant.

These standards are not intended to reflect those set out in newly constructed buildings. However, the Township does recognize the importance of maintaining existing buildings.

Frequently requested by-laws can be found under By-laws.  If you would like to obtain a copy of a by-law that is not on the list, please contact Legislative Service at 519.846.9691 x901.
